Junior High Education
Our Curriculum
Grades seven and eight at EHSA center around the independent, individualized development of students, always centered around the core pillars of mindfulness, courage, and spontaneity. Students will grow their unique and mindful understanding of our world, beginning to see their peers and teachers as the complex and unique people with whom they share an educational experience; they will strengthen their courage to ask questions and propose bold, creative ideas to share with their peers and community; they will adopt and embrace a spontaneous approach to learning and socializing, defined by quick connections between pieces of knowledge, and the honest expression of them. Junior High education is defined by our students’ increasing independence and responsibility, as they are in the beginning stages of being young-adult scholars. They will embrace their individualized and interdisciplinary educational experience, showcasing their own unique direction and talents, while appreciating the expression—especially artistic and creative—of others.
In Junior High education, the EHSA curriculum stresses the importance of history and society, through both fiction and nonfiction, and the understanding of the complex characters that have defined it. Mathematics, as with all grade levels, is accelerated beyond the norms of seventh and eighth grade, and students will attain a full understanding of algebra, quadratic equations, and introductory geometry before entering grade nine. Social studies focuses on an exploration of democracy and its comparative development in the United States and South Korea, and applications to each student’s personal life. Science takes an integrated approach across the three main branches of physics, biology, and chemistry, while emphasizing an engineering mindset of solving applied problems.
